Steve: Apprentice LGV Driver - Spalding

Why did you choose an apprenticeship over a different career or further education?

With an apprenticeship you are learning on the job getting hands on experience which I prefer to full classroom based learning.

Were there lots of opportunities locally for this type of apprenticeship?

No, this apprenticeship was the first one I had seen so I knew it was an opportunity I couldn’t afford to miss.

What were you expecting when you first started the programme?

I thought I would probably be overwhelmed – The truth is I was a little, but that soon passed as the support I received made me feel more confident.

What support have you received through your training?

I have received a tremendous amount of support from the driver trainers, managers and drivers, some of whom were former apprentices.  Any questions or concerns I have had they have been eager to help me with.

What have you most enjoyed about being with Fowler Welch and your apprenticeship?

Learning on the job.  You can go to the same place and have a different experience it all adds up to paint a picture of what the job will be like when you get out there on your own.

What advice would you give to anyone looking to enrol in a Fowler Welch apprenticeship?

Go for it! I’m happy I did.
