Going the extra mile for our customers
Our key focus is to provide our customers with an excellent, cost-effective service that contributes to an efficient supply chain and meets our customers’ needs on a daily basis. This focus has played a key part in the 14% total reduction in carbon emissions across the business in the last five years.
We pride ourselves in being innovative in our approach to a client’s problem, finding a solution that will offer them added value even if it means going that extra mile.
Collaborating to form the best solutions
This can be clearly seen in our approach to the management of our 450-strong fleet. We aim to be industry leaders in both our customer service and innovation, so are incredibly flexible in the way in which we approach our fleet design and management.
When further expertise is needed, we will collaborate with leading trailer manufacturers to provide our customer with a solution that best suits their needs.
We have recently worked with a customer to develop bespoke trailers which would work with Automated Pallet Delivery (APD) systems to fully load or unload 26 pallets in just one minute. Traditional APD trailers can only be used at facilities that have the mechanism for loading. This often means that trailers travel empty to the factory to collect loads.
Combating wasted miles
In order to combat these wasted miles, we designed 10 customised trailers. The new trailers – which are a first of their kind – offer a versatile refrigerated trailer which can be loaded by APD or traditional forklift thanks to a clever drop down floor.
The floor is stowed in the ceiling when being used as an APD and drops to cover the floor when being used as a conventional trailer. This increases the opportunities for return journey backloads significantly, saving 40% carbon emissions per pallet/mile.
By listening to our client throughout the process, we delivered a bespoke solution that improved the efficiency of their operation and reduced empty running by 252,000 miles, showing a reduction in carbon emissions by 333 tonnes per year.Fowler Welch
