Staying COVID-19 Secure in 2020

Food supply is at the heart of the response to combat the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.  The services Fowler Welch provides are critical, especially during this time, and it is vital that we continue to provide them in a safe and sustainable way.

In March, Fowler Welch implemented a 3 stage plan, broadly reflecting the government’s initial phases, in line with our objectives;

1) To protect the wellbeing of our colleagues and the colleagues of our customers, suppliers and our customers’ customers; and
2) As a key player in the UK food supply chain, to continue to provide our services to the best of our abilities given the potentially challenging environment that may unfold in the coming weeks

Some key actions involved;

  • Ceased all Company travel
  • Awareness campaigns across all sites promoting the importance of good personal and respiratory hygiene
  • Investing heavily in equipment to allow as many colleagues as possible to work from a remote location away from the operational centres that would need to continue to stay open
  • Investing in additional personal hygiene products such as hand sanitiser, issued to all colleagues

  • Implemented one-way pedestrian traffic systems in operational zones to avoid unnecessary areas of congestion
  • Awareness campaigns on social distancing and how to conform to the guidelines in the workplace
  • Moved workstations, altered shift patterns and installed Perspex in required areas to eliminate face-to-face interactions.
  • Staggered shift patterns and break times to avoid congestion in shared areas such as canteen, welfare and washroom facilities

Fowler Welch complies with the government’s guidance on COVID-19;

  • We have carried out COVID-19 risk assessments for all sites and the results have been made available to all colleagues
  • We have cleaning, handwashing and hygiene procedures in line with guidance
  • We have taken all reasonable steps to help people to work from home
  • We have taken all reasonable steps to maintain a 2m distance in the workplace
  • Where people cannot be 2m apart we have done everything practical to manage transmission risk
