Fowler Welch’s Teynham facility has a long established reputation of offering our day one for day one service of cross docking and consolidating product grown in Kent or delivered from the region’s ports.
However, after listening to the needs of our fresh produce customers, our joint venture Integrated Service Solutions (ISS) has delivered an efficient end-to-end supply chain.
The colocation of the state of the art pack house with Fowler Welch’s distribution network and expertise allows existing customers to be confident that they are receiving high quality produce, safely handled, every time.
Fully equipped warehouses
The completion of a 52,000 sq. ft. warehouse extension in 2016 increased the packing and ripening operation to cover 120,000 sq. ft. This has broadened the range of ripening and packing services available for a variety of stoned, exotic and soft fruits, from lemons and limes to kiwis and mangoes.
The facility includes 70,000 sq. ft. of pack house including six ripening rooms that use humidity and temperature to safely ripen a range of fruits. The extension has created space for a further 2,500 pallets of rack storage for product to be stored in chambers of up to four different temperatures from 0°C to 10°C.
Consolidating the supply chain
Consolidating the supply chain under one roof shortens the supply chain significantly, improves efficiency and reduces food miles. In the past year the site has packed 8 million cases, a number which is expected to reach 10 million in the next twelve months.
The co-locating of ripening, packing, storage and distribution services delivered significant savings to ISS customers through a simplified chain. With over 100,000 pallets per annum, ISS is adding significant value to its customers.
